The JACKSONs of Enniscoe and Carramore, Co. Mayo originated in Sneyd Park, Bristol, England. I suspect that in time, we will also find that this tree is connected to a Miles JACKSON of Co. Mayo (in Co. Mayo as early as 1655). Please alert me to any errors or potential additions and I will post corrections ASAP.

JACKSONs of Enniscoe & Carramore, Co. Mayo.

NOTE: Detailed notes follow this outline tree, but they have not been updated since 2010. It is one of many things on my to-do list.
NOTE: This tree is now up-to-date enough that for anyone who is related and who has had their DNA done, it should be quite revealing.
NOTE: The GORE family connections are also of interest with respect to narrowing down the focus of where the JACKSON-GORE links might be - as they relate to Rev. William JACKSON (1737-1795) of United Irishment fame.

1    Joseph Jackson  d: in of Sneyd Park, Westbury-on-Trym, Gloucestershire NOTE: This connection is likely incorrect. See details beneath in detailed report.
........  2    Oliver Jackson b. 1605. [Thanks to Jan Waugh - he was included in Connaught Certificates]

........  2    Francis Jackson  d: 1678 in of Enniscoe, Co. Mayo NOTE: For some time I wondered if he might be the Francis JACKSON (1632- bef 1680), son of Rev. Richard JACKSON and Dorothy OTWAY. SEE: Jacksons of Coleraine. Three birds, which are included in the arms of the descendants of Rev. Richard & Dorothy, are a common motif in all sorts of  Jackson Crests.

Jacksons of Carramore - NOTE: This was not updated in 2018.

Generation No. 1

1.  JOSEPH1 JACKSON NOTE: The connection to Francis, shown here as his son, is likely incorrect. Thanks to an email by Jan on Aug 1, 2010: Although Joseph Jackson of Sneyd Park Bristol, Glouc. does exist, he is NOT the father of Francis Jackson.  Per Jos. Jackson's will (of Bristol), he had only one son (named Joseph).  There are a total of 3 Joseph Jacksons (including this one) as candidates to be Francis' father, obviously this one being highly unlikely. NOTE: There may still be a Sneyd Park in county Kent, even though it does not exist on a map.

(Source: (1) Sneyd Park Mansion, SEE: http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/onlineex/topdrawings/s/005add000015540u00224000.html for photo and description: View of the 17th century mansion at Sneyd Park in Bristol. During the middle ages the land belonged to the church and in 1274 it was emparked- that is set aside to raise deer. It was originally called Snead or Sneed. After the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII in 1544 granted the estate to Sir Ralph Sadlier. In 1650s the Sadliers sold it to Joseph Jackson who built this large mansion (1691) lying in formal gardens. The Jacksons were wealthy Bristolian merchants and in 1688-89, William Jackson was Mayor of Bristol. The last of the Jacksons died in 1811, and by an Act of Parliament of 1853, their heirs were allowed to divide and sell off the estate for development as a suburb of Bristol., (2) Gloucester archives, Jackson family of Sneyd Park, Westbury-on-Trym, Gloucestershire.) died in of Sneyd Park, Westbury-on-Trym, Gloucestershire.

Child of JOSEPH JACKSON is:

2.           i.   FRANCIS2 JACKSON, d. 1678, of Enniscoe, Co. Mayo.

Generation No. 2

2.  FRANCIS2 JACKSON (JOSEPH1) (Source: (1) Sir Bernard Burke, Genealogical and Heraldic History of Landed Gentry of Great Britain and Ireland, Vol I. London 1875, This branch of the ancient Devonshire family of JACKSON, of Combhay, was established in Ireland by FRANCIS JACKSON, Esq., a younger son of Joseph JACKSON, Esq. of Sneyd Park, in the co. of Kent, who passed over into that kingdom as captain of dragoons in Cromwell's army, and purchasing extensive landed property in the Barony of Tyrrawley and county of Mayo, had it shortly after the Restoration, confirmed to him and his heirs by patent of Charles II. He built a large fortified house at Enniscoe, on the banks of Lough Conn. He d. in 1678, leaving by Elizabeth his wife, a son.  NOTE: Sneyd Park is located in Bristol, England where the Jacksons were power players - Merchants, ship owners, Mayors, Sheriffs.  They also had a residence across the border in Combe Hay, Somerset.  I call it their country home.  What is interesting is that there is a Pedigree for Myles Jackson of Bristol which indicates that he is "out of York".  Also, they have close ties to London and the Yorkie Jacksons are tied to London. SOURCE: Email November 14, 2009 Jan Waugh., (2) NOTE, Enniscoe House Information    When Francis Jackson moved to the county Mayo in the 1660's he probably never imagined that 350 years later the twelfth generation of his descendants would still be there, in the same house on the banks of Lough Conn, Crossmolina, in the County Mayo. Enniscoe house is a splendid heritage listed Georgian Mansion that is available for meals, tea and also has luxury accommodation but is equally well known for the looped walk through the grounds surrounding the house.  A family descended from a Cromwellian soldier who bought and was granted extensive estates in the barony of Tirawley, Co Mayo. Branches of the family lived at Enniscoe, Carrowmore and Fortland in the barony.) died 1678 in of Enniscoe, Co. Mayo.  He married ELIZABETH UNNAMED.
